FAQ

Find answers to all your questions about sugaring, preparation, aftercare, and maintaining smooth skin between appointments.

How should I prepare for my sugaring appointment? Hair should be 5–10 mm long, about the size of a grain of rice. Avoid creams, oils, or fake tan on the day of your treatment. Exfoliate 24 hours before your appointment for the smoothest results. For more details please check out posts in our Blog section. Check the contraindications below. Wear loose clothing to avoid friction and bring clean cotton underwear to change into after your treatment.

Can I do sugaring if I have sensitive skin? Absolutely! Sugaring is ideal for sensitive skin, including conditions like eczema or psoriasis. The paste adheres only to the hair and dead skin cells, not the live skin, making it a gentle hair removal method that also provides light exfoliation.

Who should avoid sugaring treatments? (contraindications) Absolute – No Sugaring Skin infections (bacterial, viral, or fungal). Type 1 or 2 diabetes with poor wound healing. Open wounds, cuts, or broken skin. Severe sunburn. Active acne or cysts in the area. History of keloid scarring. Contagious skin conditions (e.g., impetigo, ringworm). Temporary – Reschedule Recent chemical peels or laser treatments (last 2 weeks). Accutane (isotretinoin) or similar medication (last 6–12 months). Retinoids (e.g., Retin-A, tretinoin) within the last 3–7 days. Recent sun exposure or tanning (last 48 hours). Exfoliation or microdermabrasion (last 7–10 days). Bruising, swelling, inflammation, or fake tan (last 24 hours). Note: If unsure, always consult your therapist.

Is sugaring safe during pregnancy? Yes, sugaring is safe, but we provide treatments only after the first trimester. The sugar paste is made from natural ingredients – sugar, water, and lemon juice – and all products are carefully selected for safety and gentle care.

Can I get sugared if I use Accutane (Roaccutane)? No, sugaring is not recommended while taking Accutane or within 6–12 months after completing treatment. Accutane makes the skin extremely sensitive and prone to irritation or damage, so it’s safest to wait before booking your appointment.

Does hair length matter for sugaring? Yes, hair should be around 5mm long, about the size of a grain of rice. This ensures the sugar paste can grip the hair properly for a smooth, effective treatment. If your hair is longer , don’t worry — your therapist will trim it if needed. The trimmer is first washed under water and disinfected in a professional-grade solution in line with British beauty standards, then air-dried. At Epil Studio, we go further to ensure every client’s safety by also following Ukrainian standards: blades are placed in a special packet and sterilised in a high-temperature dry heat steriliser at 200°C. Finally, the clipper is sprayed with disinfectant immediately before each use.

What hygiene standards do you follow? At Epil Studio, hygiene and client safety are our top priorities. We use disposable items whenever possible, including spatulas, treatment couch covers, gloves, and other single-use materials to ensure the highest level of cleanliness for every client. The only reusable tool is the trimmer, which is thoroughly sanitised. It is first washed and disinfected in a professional-grade solution in line with British beauty standards, then air-dried. To go further, we also follow Ukrainian sterilisation standards: blades are placed in a sealed sterilisation pouch and sterilised in a high-temperature dry heat steriliser at 200°C. Finally, the clipper is sprayed with disinfectant immediately before each use.

Is sugaring painful? Sugaring may cause mild discomfort, especially during the first appointment, but most clients find it less painful than waxing. The sugar paste adheres only to the hair and dead skin cells, not the live skin, making the treatment gentler and more comfortable. The paste is also applied at body temperature, which helps reduce irritation and protects sensitive skin. With regular appointments, hair becomes finer and the process usually feels easier over time.

What aftercare should I follow after the treatment? 0–24 hours: Avoid exercise or activities that cause sweating. Do not touch the treated area unnecessarily. Avoid hot baths, hot showers, steam rooms, or saunas. Avoid tanning, sun exposure, and swimming. Wear loose clothing to prevent friction. Do not apply deodorant, perfumed products, or lotions. 24–48 hours: Avoid intense workouts and excessive sweating. Avoid heat and friction on the treated area. Apply a fragrance-free moisturiser if needed. After 72 hours: Begin gentle exfoliation 2–3 times per week. Moisturise the skin daily. Avoid shaving or plucking between treatments. For best results, repeat sugaring every 4–6 weeks.

How long will the results last? Results depend on the treated area and your individual hair growth cycle, but most clients enjoy smooth skin for around 3–4 weeks. With regular sugaring appointments, hair often becomes finer and softer, helping results last longer over time.

Can I get sugared during my period? Yes, you can still have sugaring during your period. For bikini treatments, please wear a tampon or menstrual cup. Keep in mind that during the first couple of days your skin may feel more sensitive, so the treatment may be slightly less comfortable. If you experience heavy bleeding or strong cramps, it may be best to schedule your appointment for another time. When booking, we recommend checking your cycle calendar to choose the most comfortable time of the month for your treatment.

What is your cancellation, late, and no-show policy? We require clients to provide at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancellations within 24 hours are considered a no-show. If you do not attend your appointment, the full treatment price will be charged. We allow a 5–10 minute grace period, but arriving late may result in a shortened treatment to avoid delaying the next client. If the delay is significant, the appointment will need to be rebooked, and the late appointment fee will apply (late appointment fee equal to the full treatment price). We want every client to have the best possible experience, and each appointment is reserved exclusively for you. These policies help us respect the time and experience of all our clients.
